The Quill Newspaper
The Quill.org is the schools newspaper website. I have been given the chance to rework the website to make it more graphically pleasing, as well as better organized and more formal for websites. The site so far is simply a scheme that can be selected, and it hasn't been really customized or changed at all, so that is my job this semester. The site is really bland so far, the background of everything is really bland and boring, so I was thinking of adding a background color around the article and make the article background a light gray rather than a white. I think either changing the color of the top navigation, or incorporating that color into the rest of the site, will make the color scheme work better. As for graphics, I like the photo changing at the top of the page, but I think the entire site is bland, un-colorful, and that the logo is definintly not prominent enough for the site. With the coloring and organization that it has now, it doesn't look like a newspaper site, it just looks generic and bland. The entire header needs to be redone, the logo made bigger, the coloring changing. The text needs to be changed to black so that it pops more from the site, since the text is the most important part of a newspaper site. Other sites incorporate design and text to make the feel of a newspaper site, without it looking too bland or white, and that is something that I am really trying to focus on.
