UMBC's Website: Bland and Unattractive

Hey again, the next website that I am looking at that I would like to discuss is UMBC's college website. What I like about this website is the picture animation again. I find those animations really interesting in websites because I really want to learn how to make that sort of animation happen. As you can see, the part that shows the picture shows a small little square that previews the photo, then when it is selected, it makes the image bigger. These kind of photo displays I think are an important part of trying to show as many pictures as possible while not overflowing the website with pictures that are too distracting.
I really do like the graphics that they used, the coloring for the background and layout for this picture. I think it is creative, catches the eye, and works really well together. As for the general picture animation, the entire design is another way to show a lot of pictures while taking up only a small amount of space. The composition of these pictures, as well as the previews at the bottom is really nicely put together and creative for the design.

Now, for the entire website together as an affective college site, I do not like it really at all.
As you can see in this picture, there is almost no coloring on the site except from pictures, and I really think it looks very bland. I do like sites that have a lot more color to them, a background color, or some kind of design that incorporates color, but the background is white, there is no distinction between sections except for one thin line and a change in font color, but I don't find it very creative or inspiring. As a student, this site does not attract my attention or interest me in any way. Even the logo is plain and doesn't call attention to itself. The only thing that I also like is the photo and across the top. Basically, I find this site unattractive, and not creative at all as a schools site.
