Basics of Branding

I am working on a portfolio website that showcases my graphic and web design abilities and on the website I am having a section for services that I can offer, and one of them was branding, so I decided to try and learn more about branding and branding strategies. This is the basics of branding.
"The American Marketing Association (AMA) defines a brand as a "name, term, sign, symbol or design, or a combination of them intended to identify the goods and services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of other sellers."
Branding doesn't focus on getting your audience to choose you over your competition, it focus's on getting your audience to view you as the only company with the solution to their problem. Objectives that a good brand should achieve are:
  • Delivers the message clearly
  • Confirms the credibility
  • Connects your target prospects emotionally
  • Motivates the buyer
  • Concretes User Loyalty
To create a successful brand, you need to understand what the customer and prospects need and want out of their brand. The brand of a company is what the customers and prospects remember about your company, what the brand shows about the company.

This is a shorter blog post that is just a precursor about brands, next I am going to look at the steps to developing a brand for a company.
